Government and trains

Yes I am moaning again, but I have reason this time.

This government, the same as every one that has been before and the same as those that will follow are to be polite wasting their time. On what you ask? On getting people out of their cars and using trains or any other type of public transport instead.

I know I should be doing something for the enviroment but at what cost?

I did a bit of pricing up the other day because I was considering taking my kids and partner to London for the day. I thought I would price up the train as it would get us there quicker. I got out the laptop and clicked on National rail to find train times and prices. Train times were great, the quickest journey was 1 hour 31 mins. This was great I thought, then I clicked the link for the price.

OH MY GODDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In order to take my family, which comprises, myself, my partner and my two sons(one 16 and one 18) it would cost us.........................wait for it.....................................£509.60......................................

This is more than we spend going to Cornwall for a week!

How can the government and East Midland trains(who opened East medlands parkway specifically to take people off the roads) say it is worth it to go by train????

How can the train companies charge so much, it's ridiculous.

If I was to go by car, yes it would take a bit longer, but it would cost(even including congestion charge and parking) approx £100!!!!!!!

Even if I was to go by coach it would be so much cheaper, an example is National express, 4 people travelling from Derby to London, no stops, 3hrs 50 mins, total cost £117.50.

I have been travelling by train to work for the past 3 months and so far my opinion of East Midlands trains is that they need to work a lot harder running their stations. I cycle to the station and take my bike on the train with me. They say that I should be booking my cycle on the train but what is the point, I book my cycle onto the two trains I catch only to miss my second train because the first train is late, running slow, lack of staff etc, etc. This has happened on numerous occasions. I get to the station and it says on the board, first class is at the front so I know I have to get on at the rear of the train. The train turns up and guess what? .......... Yes that right first class is at the rear and I now have to fight my way through all the people waiting to get on the train, to get to the front of the train so that I can get my bike on board. This happens more at Leicester station than it does at Derby but it is still infuriating.

The only reason I am catching the train at the moment isn't because I want to help the enviroment, it's because my car is broken and waiting to be repaired. I can't wait to get back into a car and get on the road again.

.............KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD.STAY SANE.....................
